Learn a Language
Would you like to learn a language for business or pleasure?

There are lots of ways to do this now, many of which make it much more fun than it used to be.

There are also some free resources available on the internet, including video-rich ones from the BBC, as long as you have broadband. You’ve paid your licence fee, so why not enjoy some extras?

Have a look at the following links for free language-learning resources from the BBC:

The main portal to BBC Languages is at the bottom of the BBC homepage
under ‘Learning’:

If you’ve done a bit of French at school, but want to take it further and have some fun with interactive exercises, have a look at this project, called ‘Ma France’, from BBC Languages

For Spanish, try the new fully immersive video drama ‘Mi Vida Loca’ (My crazy life!), where you have to interact with the story to find out what’s going on and to learn the language.
This project recently won a BAFTA for innovation in interactivity, and it’s a great way of learning Spanish without really being aware of it.

Here’s a good online course for beginners in German, called ‘German Steps’

or a self-contained online course in Italian, ‘Italian Steps’

There are also shorter courses in Greek, Portuguese, even Chinese if you’re interested
Talk Greek

Talk Portuguese

and Real Chinese

Courses to buy

If you want to buy some books or audio CDs to go with some of these BBC projects, this can be done online through BBC Active:

If you’d like to try a different method of learning, why not have a go with the Michel Thomas method, learning how to build up sentences for yourself in the same way you learnt your own language.

Or the Earworms approach, where you take in language whilst listening to music.

Have a look at audible.co.uk, a great site for audio books and all sorts of other audio-only resources. Here you can sample many of the products for free before you buy:
